Whistler under the snow… and on the ice!

Snow, snow again, and still snowing! After an epic end of year for the snow lovers, 2008 is getting off to a great start!

backcountry-skiing_whistler.jpgMore than 450cm of snow fell this season, and a lot more is on its way. Above 50cm in the last 48 hours and a forecast of more than 60cm before the end of the weekend. Fresh powder on a daily basis, isn’t that a skier’s dream?

With all this snow, the Holidays have been great, and the winter is looking good in 2008 with the mountains ready for any adventure you might think of.

It’s under this snow that Pierre Lueders, four-time Olympian, and Justin Kripps christened the Whistler Sliding Centre bobsleigh track in December. The duo agreed that the track is challenging and that it will be a challenge for the athletes during the 2010 Olympics and Paralympics. The first international competition on the track will be the International Bobsleigh Federation World Cup in February 2010. Until then Pierre and Justin will no doubt dream about medals!

With snow conditions at their best, plethora of activities to choose from on the mountain or in the Village, and the Olympic venues ready for you to see, Whistler is the place to be this winter! Plan a trip to the mountains; contact Whistler Marriott for a spectacular, lodge-style hotel located minutes away from the slopes of Blackcomb.

Whistler Winter Wonderland: Skis are not required

There are some who just don’t like skiing. There are some who are tired. There are some who just want something new. Whoever they are, they will find something to do in Whistler!

With a wonderful winter climate, not too cold and quite sunny, and excellent snowfall, Whistler is an ideal place to enjoy winter at its best. Start with snowshoeing with a guided tour or by yourself - it's the ultimate Canadian winter activity. Accessible to all ages and abilities, it allows you to discover nature during the cold season like you have never seen it before.crosscountry_skiing_whistler.jpg

Cross-country skiing is also a lovely way to discover the area, with more than 32 kilometres of groomed trails on Whistler's picturesque Lost Lake Trails. There are also other trails in the Sea to Sky Valley for all levels – think about the Olympic and Paralympic venue in the Callaghan!

Snowmobiling tours are offered day and night. Take your own or share with a friend, and set off for a discovery session or an adventure-pack day. Horse-drawn sleigh rides offer romance for two or fun for the whole family. Spas are always relaxing and rejuvenating, shopping is always fun, swimming or ice skating at the Meadow Park Sports Centre, touring Whistler's many art galleries, and enjoying theatre production or music concert, are all great ways to escape the cold.

Whistler has much more to offer than a simple skihill. Come discover a wonderful community and the mountain way of life. Book your Whistler accommodation early with Whistler Marriott Residence Inn and benefit from great deals!

Activities you didn’t know you could do in Whistler

Well, maybe you did know about them. But we’re just trying to bring in to variety to your days when you stay at the Whistler Marriott.

Number one activity is still skiing or snowboarding. And with all the snow falling (18 centimetres in the last 24 hours), not doubt that some epic days will happen up on the mountain. However, during the winter you may think many activities would be close. Not true!

blackcomb_heaven.jpgBungee Jumping is on-going during the cold season. Nothing better than a rush of adrenaline to boost your energy! You can even do tandem, in case you would like to hug your better half during the 160-foot free fall.
Paintball is also a lot of fun and very different during the winter. More than 20 acres covered in snow bring a new element to the game. Of course you may prefer to wear with instead of camouflage this time!
Get a new vision of the winter landscape with Treetrek. The network of suspension bridges and boardwalks takes you to see the trees on a different angle: from the top!

Those are just a few activities that you can add to your days in Whistler. Enjoy a multi-activity vacation in British Columbia and book your accommodation with Whistler Marriott: our experienced staff and concierge service will help you choose the right activities for your group or family.
